I get a lot of questions about how you can possibly make nut butters (like peanut butter, almond butter or cashew butter) with a juicer. The funny part is, it's really quite simple! Not all juicers can homogenize things like a food processor, only masticating juicers can do that. So, you will need to make sure that you have a
masticating juicer and a
homogenizing blank. A homogenizing blank is simply a screen attachment that, well, has no screen. Instead of pushing pulp through the screen, when you are homogenizing, you don't want anything to pass through the screen area. So, a homogenizing blank has solid plastic where the screen would be. This is either an included attachment or optional accessory with most masticating juicers.
If you'd like to make nut butter, all you have to do it put some nuts through the juicer and watch as they come out the juicing hole nice and chewed up. You'll need to compress the mixture at the end because it comes out in loosely separated bits, but once those chunks are mixed together, you have some homemade nut butter!
If you're trying to make nut butter, it's best to use roasted nuts and a good amount of oily nuts (like peanuts). Almond butter made from pure almonds can sometimes be too dry (depending on your almonds). There is no perfect ratio of nuts to make a perfect nut butter combination. It really just depends on the oil content of the particular nuts you're using. I like to make sure my nut butter is mostly peanuts because they work so well. However, lots of people have success with nut butters made of only almonds or only cashews. It's really just a trial and error process.
Remember, since you are not adding any preservatives to these nut butters (which makes them much better for us), they should really be stored in the refrigerator to keep them fresh. No one wants to see a jar of homemade peanut butter go bad! What a waste of deliciousness!

My younger son is intolerant to peanuts (delayed allergy). Right now, we buy sunbutter, but almond or cashew would work for him as well. This is great news!
